iPad 3 (officially the “new iPad”)

I got an iPad from work a few months ago and thought I would let you know what I think. Before I got it I had an iPhone and a laptop and was pretty sure tablets were for people with more money than sense and wouldn’t add any real value to my “tech world”.
How wrong I was! The iPad has completely blown my mind. The Retina Display is a break through – the screen is four times better than the iPad 2. I was always a big fan of dead tree books and newspapers, I just really appreciated having the physical object in my hand and I always struggled to read for long periods of time from computer screens. Since I got the iPad I haven’t book a single book or newspaper as the incredible Retina Display mean the iPad is great to read on. Additionally it is very cheap to buy books and media on the iPad and you gain on quality and convenience.
The portability is much better than the average laptop and the thousands upon thousands of apps make it a great toy but also useful for serious work. I still do most of my work from a desktop or lap top but the iPad is coming into work more often especially in meeting s where I can record the conversation, take notes, share reports or play games if I am bored 
I have the 16GB wireless only version which is retailing for $729 at the moment and is the cheapest version. The wireless only feature means I cannot connect to mobile networks while on the move but to be honest I don’t really notice as I have wifi at home, work and at most of my favourite cafes. I do find the 16GB to be maybe a touch small as I have quickly filled it up with music, apps and photos. I could solve this by being a bit more selective with what I sync between my iPhone (32GB), laptop and the iPad.
I’ve noticed the iPad can get really hot when running certain games but I haven’t found this to be too big an issue. Also it takes forever to charge the battery; I have to put it on to charge overnight every 2 or (max) 3 days.
All in all I would give the iPad 4.5 stars. The only reason I haven’t given it 5 is that to be perfect I would have to be happy to give up my laptop – which I am not quite ready for.
